Sister Sandra Marcoux SUSC

Sister Sandra Marcoux, SUSC, (Sr. Joseph Catherine) of Mansfield, MA died October 2 at the age of 69 after a short illness. She was born in Fall River, MA in 1943, the daughter of the late Howard and Catherine (Hennessey) Marcoux. In addition to her Holy Union Sisters, her sisters, Joyce Limoge, brother-in-law Roland of Shelburne VT and Kathryn O’Neill and brother-in-law Paul O’Neill of Poinciana Florida, five nieces Beth Stvan, Kristin Wells, Allison Barnes, Kerry O’Neill Jones, Kathryn O’Neill and grandnieces and nephews survive her. Her nephew Peter Limoge predeceased her.

Sr. Sandra was a graduate of the former Sacred Hearts Academy, Fall River. She entered the Holy Union Sisters in Fall River, MA in 1961 and pronounced her final vows on August 22, 1969. She received a B. S. in Education from the College of the Sacred Hearts, Fall River. Sr. Sandra taught primary grades in parish schools in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York. She served as Director of Formation for the Holy Union Sisters from 1980-1983. She then began a ministry in early childhood education in Boston and served as Lead Teacher in the Children’s AIDS Program in Mattapan, and served as coordinator of childcare at Nazareth Residence for Mothers and Children with AIDS in Boston. She participated in child development courses as well as workshops and training sessions in early childhood and children with AIDS and was a certified Lead Teacher for infants and toddlers. From 2004 until 2010 she served as administrator for the Holy Union Sisters Retirement Community at The Landmark in Fall River, MA.

Sr. Sandra was an active participant in Holy Union committees and served on the board of the Country Day School of the Holy Union in Groton, MA.

All funeral services will take place at Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St, Fall River MA on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. The wake is at 9 a.m. followed by the Vigil Service at 9:45 and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30.
