

Stratis P. Kostas, age 89, of Swansea, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 12, 2015 in Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Mary (Yankopoulos) Kostas to whom he has been married for the past 58 years.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Peter and Angelica (Panaretos) Kosta, he lived in New Bedford before moving to Swansea in 1956.
A graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1943, he attended Brown University and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Mr. Kostas was a Veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II. He worked as a Technical Illustrator for General Dynamics and G Tech before his retirement.
He was an active member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Fall River where he was past president and a member of the choir. Quite the artist Mr. Kostas enjoyed painting and was a member of the Fall River Art Association and Audubon Society. He especially enjoyed traveling with his wife.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three grandchildren: Ivan Loonstra, Jacqueline Loonstra and her husband Veljko Cifilic, Blake Kostas, and several nieces and nephews including Janice Rapoza. He was the father of the late Elene P. Kostas and Ann S. Loonstra and brother of the late Stevens P. Kostas and Nicholas P. Kosta.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 9:00AM in St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 289 North Main St., Fall River. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00 to 7:00PM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Contributions in his honor may be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 289 North Main St., Fall River, MA 02720 or to a charity of one’s choice. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
