OBITUARY

William H. Kilroy

January 9, 1937November 10, 2021

William H. Kilroy, age 84, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Tiverton on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. He was the husband of the late Katherine M. (Sullivan) Kilroy to whom he was married for 57 years before her death in 2018.

Born in Fall River, a son of the late Harold W. and Imelda (Landry) Kilroy, he was a longtime resident of the city.

A graduate of Monsignor James Coyle High School, Class of 1955, he earned a degree from Bristol Community College in 1975 and attended courses at Babson College. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served during the Vietnam Era.

A Detective Lieutenant for the Major Crimes Division with the Fall River Police Department, he was the recipient of numerous commendations. A member of the Massachusetts Police Association, he was also a member of the Fall River Relief Association, the Retired Fall River Municipal Employees, the Fall River Boys and Girls Club, and was an instructor at the Fall River Police Academy.

Bill was a man of faith, attending St. Anne’s church in his youth, SS. Peter & Paul as an adult, and St. Theresa’s in his later years. He never had a negative word to say about anyone, always the voice of reason, with a calm demeanor. He approached all things with extreme organization and great attention to detail.

Bill was a skilled handyman and had a particular talent for woodworking. He was also a big sports fan and enjoyed attending local amateur baseball games, a habit that began when he was a child going to games with his father. He also loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, enjoying the games themselves and the opportunity to socialize with family. Throughout his life Bill remained close with a small circle of good friends from his old neighborhood. In his later years he enjoyed salt water fishing.

He is survived by his three children, Dr. Kevin P. Kilroy and his wife Kimberly of Berkley, Susan E. Raymondo and her husband Michael of Fall River, and Karen Kilroy of Portsmouth; his four grandchildren, Patrick, Kelsey and Broghan Kilroy and Michael K. Raymondo; and one nephew, Robert Tooley. He was the brother of the late Aline Harrington and Margaret Kilroy.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa’s Church, 265 Stafford Rd., Tiverton. Burial with military honors will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. Kevin, Sue and Karen, I’m sorry to hear your dad is gone. Uncle Bill lit up every room with his warm and easy smile, and his voice carried that same undertone of kindly good humor. I remember fondly the many parties he and your mom hosted when we were kids. Go with God, Uncle Bill. Love, Colleen

You would be hard pressed to find a better guy than Kipper. I consider it a privilege to have known him for most of my adult life. I regret that I cannot attend his funeral as I am out of the country. He will be sorely missed and I know he is in a better place. Rest in peace old friend and I'm certain God is overjoyed to have his loyal servant home again. Pete Leary
