

Atty. William F. Patten, age 87, of Fall River, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011, in Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret M. (Booth) Patten to whom he has been married for the past 60 years.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Thomas E. and Lillian E. (Morrison) Patten, he was a lifelong resident of the city.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1941, he graduated from Boston University, class of 1953, and Suffolk University Law School, class of 1977. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He served as an Internal Revenue Service agent for 29 years and practiced as a tax lawyer for many years following his retirement from federal service.
He was a member of the Massachusetts Bar, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the U.S. Tax Court, the Clover Club of Fall River, the William S. Green Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans, the Knights of Columbus Fall River Council, and the Over the Hill Gang. He was a communicant of Holy Name Church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons: Atty. Edward T. Patten and his wife, Susan, of Dennis, MA, and Atty. Paul W. Patten and his wife, Brenda, of Somerset, MA; his daughter, Atty. Teresa M. Patten of Boston, MA; four grandchildren, Audrey Patten, Jennifer Patten, Thomas Patten and Eric Patten; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Thomas E. Patten Jr., Lillian V. Conroy and Ruth M. (McNamara) Burns.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 10:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE 178 Winter St. Fall River, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St. Fall River. Visiting hours Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00PM. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
