Obituary of Alexandre Cymes
Alexandre Cymes, 91, passed away January 24, 2022. He was born on August 22, 1930, to Stella and Bernard Cymes in Paris, France, where he was raised. He lived in Occupied France during World War II. Years later, he joined the French Foreign Legion. And, then leaving his furrier business behind, he followed his parents to the United States at age 25. Alex, or “Ali,” which was his family nickname, was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, coach, and friend. He enjoyed trips with his family, especially to France, to be with his French family and friends. He enjoyed soccer – playing and coaching. He loved his soccer-family, their games, their travels together to tournaments in the U.S., and their matches throughout the world. He enjoyed good times, good FRENCH wine, liqueurs and good food, and is remembered telling all, “This is the best!” He will always be remembered by his honesty, winning laugh, and as someone people always gravitated to. Alex is preceded in death by his parents, sister Rose, wife Nancy, and daughter Carolyn. Left to cherish memories of him are his children, Francoise “Fifi” Kieschnick, Jean “Jano” (Valerie) Cymes, Robert Cymes, Suzanne Shalewitz, Alina (Jeff) Marsh, Suzanne (Nathan) Bright, Sandra (Michael) Michell, John (Jill) Stollmeyer, and 12 grandchildren. Grave site services will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Hwy., Falls Church, VA; followed by an open house at 1 p.m., at his home at 7450 Covent Wood Court in Annandale.
