Marie Allene Thibeault died on April 9, 2022 at the age of 93 in Fairfax, Virginia. She was born on April 15, 1928 in Canton, Ohio to Marie Helene (Hickey) and Albert James Smith, who both predeceased her. Raised in Quincy MA, Allene graduated from Quincy High School, class of 1946, and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Class of 1950. Allene met her husband, Donald Andrew Thibeault while they were both students at UMass Amherst, and they were married September 2, 1950, following graduation. They were married for 56 years, until Don's death from Alzheimer's disease in 2006. They lived in several places in Pennsylvania (State College, Mount Joy, Coudersport, Harrisburg, Fawn Grove and Gatchellville) for 13 years before moving to Falls Church, Virginia in 1963. Allene was active in the PTA in Fawn Grove and was a CCD teacher to elementary school children at Saint James Church, her Falls Church parish. Allene was the scout leader of her eldest daughter’s Girl Scout troop for several years, going on many camping trips and supervising the troop’s final outing to see “The Graduate” in 1969. Allene and Don had four children, Teresa (Richard), Donald (Kathleen), Margaret (Robert) and Nancy. Allene summered in Provincetown, MA where she owned and operated The Joshua Paine House, the guest house she inherited from her parents. Allene was an avid gardener, rug hooker and reader, listening to audio books later in life when she developed macular degeneration. She was a longtime member of Mary Burton's "Mary's Little Lambs" rug hooking club, a prayer group that met monthly for nearly 40 years (including winter ski trips and summer beach trips), and a tea group in Falls Church that met weekly for over 40 years. Her hooked rugs are cherished by all of her children, grandchildren and many friends. Allene is survived by three children, Teresa Ciccotelli of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Donald Thibeault of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Margaret Sudbury of Fairfax, VA, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Her daughter Nancy died in 2014.
