Amrik was born in Pakistan to Harbans L. Lamba and Leela Vanti Lamba on January 14, 1941. His family relocated to Saharanpur, UP in India during the partition in 1947. He spent many summers in his earlier years with his grandfather on a farm which he cherished. He came from humble beginnings, but his curious mind and his brilliance is what led him to be accepted into one of the most renowned engineering institutions in India – the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. He graduated at the top of his class with honors as an electrical engineer. Amrik fondly remembered his times at the Azad Bhawan Dorm where he spent much of his college years studying and discovering. He later married Saroj Lamba on July 26, 1969.
Amrik and Saroj migrated to the United States in 1971 to seek better opportunities. Amrik had obtained a scholarship to George Washington University where he received his second master’s in engineering and business. He then got a job at Digi-Data Corporation and was an engineer who helped manufacture high-performance storage systems and controllers. He then went on to work for Boeing and later opened his own computer business for many years where he was extremely successful.
Upon settling in Fairfax, Amrik and Saroj opened their home to family, including his beloved mother and many siblings, supporting their dreams to migrate to the United States to pursue educational and career opportunities.
Amrik was a strong, highly intelligent and dedicated man that took care of his family. He loved learning, politics, cricket and most of all teaching math to his children and then grandchildren. His devotion to his family, strong will and determination was evident.
Amrik is survived by his children, Sanjay, Risha, Nisha, and Sonu, his grandsons, Jaigan and Akash, his siblings and his many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces.
