

Anita S. Curry, a lifelong resident of Falls Church, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2015. She is survived by her loving daughter Shannon Curry Somerville (husband Andy) and two grandchildren Drew and Stephanie Somerville. Anita was born in Washington, D.C. and moved to Falls Church as a young child. She received a B.S. in Biology from The George Washington University, and began her career at Hazelton Laboratories as a technical writer and regulatory specialist. In 1972, Anita joined the staff of The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association as a research assistant and technical assistant to the director of the science department. She rose to the position of Manager of Science Information and served until retirement at the age of 81. She was managing editor of a monthly science newsletter. She played a key role during the long and complicated process of listing color additives allowed for use in US food, drugs, cosmetics and medical devices. During this time, Anita authored or co-authored more than 100 petitions to the FDA for color additives. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 10 from 4:00-8:00 pm at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Hwy, Falls Church. Funeral services will be held at Falls Church Presbyterian Church, 225 E Broad St, Falls Church, with interment following at National Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
