Anita Lois Felder Snitz, 81, passed away on November 8th, 2023 in Uniontown, PA. She was born on January 21st, 1942 in Washington D.C. to Mollie and Leo Felder. She graduated from American University with a B.A. in History and went on to work for the Library of Congress for 7 years followed by the Department of Defense for over 30 years. She was married to Jerome (Jerry) Snitz on June 23, 1968 and together they had 2 children, Philip (Phil) and Andrea (Andie).
Mom was known for her love of football. She was an avid Washington Redskins (not Commanders) fan who frequently attended home games at RFK Stadium in D.C. and Fedex Field in Landover, Maryland. In the early 80's, Mom attended the NFC Championship game between Washington and Dallas instead of attending a family event. Unfortunately for her, she was caught on camera with her brother-in-law cheering for Washington by her family. ESPN still plays the clip of her every year right around the Super Bowl. Mom also loved her cruises. She loved to sit on the deck and enjoy the fresh ocean air. She was terrified of heights so even though they always booked a balcony room; Mom never stepped outside. Mom found her love of gambling on her many cruises. She would participate in slot machine tournaments or play 3-card poker to get a break from the sun. Her love of gambling continued when she was home. Mom and Dad would frequent casinos such as Live! in Maryland or Winstar in Oklahoma.
For those that know her best, however, knows that her number one love was her family. She was a devoted wife to Jerry for 52 years, an amazing mother to Phil and Andie, and grandmother to Abigail (Abby), Austin, John Daniel (J.D.) and Ryan. When living in Viriginia, she would make the trip approximately one weekend a month to see Abby play softball or Austin in a flag football game. In 2011, she moved to Texas to be closer to J.D., her "little guy" so she could watch him play baseball, try Ice Hockey, and maybe a spelling bee or two. Mom was a proud grandmother. Her love was unconditional.
Anita Snitz was preceded in death by her mother, Mollie Felder, father Leo Felder, husband Jerry Snitz, brothers Steven and Melvin Felder and her grandson Ryan Scott Austin.
Anita Snitz is survived by her son Philip Snitz (Crystal), daughter Andrea March (Richie), grandchildren Abigail Clark (Matt), Austin Snitz, John Daniel March, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on November 15, 2023 at 12:30 pm at National Funeral Home in Falls Church, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions in Anita's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
