Ann Marie Grady died peacefully on the morning of May 5, 2026. She had been surrounded by her loving family for over a week prior to her death and was fortunate to be able to say final goodbyes to nearly everyone.
She was born the first of October 1931 to James Edward and Alice E. (née Ryan) Gill in Albany, New York. They were members of St. Teresa of Avila parish, where Ann attended school before graduating from The Vincentian Institute in 1949. She obtained her Bachelor of Science from the College of Saint Rose in 1953 and was recruited by the US Government for a research position in Washington, DC. She continued in that position until her husband took a job in another state. They later returned to the DC area and Ann returned to work as a resource officer for the government when her children were in high school. She remained there until she retired in 1994, but maintained a strong interest and knowledge in international relations until her death.
Ann was a frequent school volunteer when her daughters were young. Thanks to her artistic talents, she also found herself making costumes and doing stage makeup for many ballet performances. Until she was unable to continue, she was an active member of PAX Intentional Catholic Community, Saint Luke Catholic Church Women’s Club, Saint Luke Seniors Club, and AAUW. She contributed significantly to the AAUW Annual Used Booksale and later was the chairperson for the cookbook section for eleven years. She was proud of the money they raised for scholarships for women.
Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Dr. Lee Timothy Grady. They were married on August 8, 1964. She is also survived by her children: Meghan, and Patricia and her husband, Brian; her grandchildren: Erin and Andrew, Kevin, and Colleen; and many extended family members, including cherished cousins Ed & Pat, her nieces Kathy and Alison, and her favorite nephew, Michael. Preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Michael T. Grady, and his wife, Sally; and her beloved niece, Karen Grady.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7001 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22101 on Monday, May 18, 2026 at 12:00 pm. A brief reception will follow. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rensselaer, New York.
In lieu of flowers, Ann requested memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or to the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land (www.myfrancisan.org)
