

Ann Depenbrock Smith, 103, passed away peacefully in hospice care at The Goodwin House in Falls Church, VA on December 23, 2020. Born in Washington, DC on April 15, 1917, she is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Josephine Spellman Depenbrock, and stepfather Edward Ockerhausen; her brothers Jack, Tom, and Ben; many sisters- and brothers-in-laws; and her son-in-law, Walter Jackson. She married her late husband, Norman E. Smith (2001) originally of Front Royal, Virginia, in 1938. They lived in Arlington, VA and later moved to Falls Church, VA where they raised their two children. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her love extended to many relatives and friends who will miss her and cherish her memory. Ann worked for Arlington County from 1950-1975 in the Public Works-Transportation Division where she developed many friendships. She loved family gatherings, baking, and ice cream! Her mom’s famous original pound cake recipe, and her own adaption, have been passed down to countless many. She never forgot anyone’s birthday, except her own. She always said she was 29! Recently, though, she claimed to be 39!
Ann, also lovingly known as Mom, Aunt Anna, Gram, Me Ma, and Gram Peaches, is survived by her many “Peaches” including: her son, Dick (Frances Anne); her daughter, Suzanne Jackson; her grandchildren, Tim Smith (Sharon), Mike Jackson (Lisa), Jen Smith, and Kim Dorner (Steve); her great-grandchildren Dillon, Molly, Ryan, and Brendan Smith, Collin Dorner, and Katelyn and Evan Jackson; and many nieces, nephews, grand- and great-grand-nieces and -nephews, and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on December 29, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church, 905 Park Ave. Falls Church, VA 22046. Masks and social distancing are required. Interment immediately following at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, West Falls Church, VA 22042.
