Anna Ugalino Barba

Anna (Anatalia) Ugalino Barba, age 87, fell asleep in the Lord surrounded by her family on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Brigepoint Hospital in Washington, DC. She was born on July 9, 1929 in the Cagayan province of the Philippines. She married her husband in April 1949 and together they had 12 children, one of whom died in infancy. Having a degree in Education from Far Eastern University, Anna was a teacher first then pursued a career in the accounting field at the Department of Public Works & Highways in Manila. She served the agency for decades holding various positions. While working full-time she completed her accounting degree and then proceeded to complete her law degree. Her family migrated to the United States in 1984 and settled in Northern VA. She completed her career working in procurement for the Department of Energy and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Anna was a devout Roman Catholic. At an early age she wanted to be a nun but God had other plans for her. She was very compassionate and caring to her children and other people. She opened her home to families, friends, and strangers. She enjoyed telling stories, gardening, dancing, singing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grand children. She was predeceased in February of this year by her beloved husband of 67 years, Cornelio (John), her oldest daughter Grace in 2013, and by her son Ronald (Elizabeth) on May 2016. She is survived by her 9 children - Cornelio III (Consolacion), Alma (Edmund Mandac), Nonito (Arlene), Elizabeth, Mitos, Gemma (David Phelps), Ferdinand (Michelle), May Joy (Thomas Loesel), and Armando; sister Felissa (Pat Dayoan), 21 grandchildren and their spouses, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016, 10:00 am at St. James Catholic Church in Falls Church, VA. Burial will follow at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA. The family will greet friends at the National Funeral Home in Falls Church on Wednesday, August 3 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
