Anthony (“Andy”) C. McKee passed away on February 10, 2026 after more than 79 years of a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. He was the third of four brothers and son of John P. McKee and Teresa C. Gallagher McKee.
Andy loved his wife of 56 years, Denise “Dee” McKee, with unrelenting devotion and commitment that enabled them to build a family and innumerable friendships that spanned seven decades. Andy and Dee met in suburban Philadelphia as teenagers. They married in 1969 and raised their two biological children, Sean and Tara, while welcoming so many other adults and youth into their “family” throughout their marriage.
Andy, an educator by profession, lived his life helping others to learn, grow, and realize their potential and tackle challenges not only from within a classroom, but as a coach (basketball, baseball, and soccer), Town Supervisor and a Eucharistic Minister.
His life journey began in Wynnewood, PA and after graduating from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, moved to the Hudson Valley in New York where he and Dee raised a family and worked for more than thirty years. During this time, Andy completed his Master of Arts in Applied Spirituality from the University of San Francisco. Andy (“Mr. McKee” to his students) taught U.S. history and government studies in the Carmel Central School District until his retirement in 2002.
Prior to and during their many years based in Beekman, NY, Andy and Dee traveled and built a thick storybook of escapades from an epic road trip from New York to Central America (all the way to Panama!), to Ireland, Russia, Peru, and Scotland. Andy’s love of history, learning, and “figuring it out” when something needed doing created a spectacular mosaic of incredible experiences, shared journeys, and a lifetime of memories.
Andy and Dee later moved to Sullivan County to settle in the mountains of Dushore, Pennsylvania where they resided for over a decade following his retirement from teaching. They built friendships, watched outhouse races, hosted family get togethers, and survived harsh winters and random porcupine and bear visits to their ‘cabin in the woods.’ When the time came due to health issues, Andy and Dee said farewell to Dushore and relocated to Northern Virginia to be closer to family.
Adventurous, curious, tenacious, fun, caring, and compassionate were some of Andy’s defining characteristics as he lived his life. Often taking on roles in service to others - partner, parent, teacher, coach, public servant, volunteer - he built his relationships with spirituality, respect, and courage.
Andy is survived by his wife, two children, Sean and Tara and their families including seven grandchildren.
