

Antonio "Tony" Castro, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, November 6, 2016. Tony is survived by his devoted wife, Myrna, of 44 years; daughters: Monica (Daniel) Lynch, May (Daniel) Quigley and Athena Castro; grandchildren: Molly, Miranda, Malachi, Patrice, Quinn and Darynn; siblings: Emilio (Catalina) Castro, Regino Jr. (Gloria) Castro, Jocelyn (Michael) Evans, Cynthia (Ramon) DelaRosa, and sister-in-law Vicky Castro. He was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Alice, his parents, Regino & Obdulia Castro and his youngest brother, Horacio Castro.
He was born June 5th, 1943 in Concepcion, Tarlac, Philippines. He graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology in Intramuros, Manila, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, August 8, 1965. He was employed as a Junior Engineer in the Philippines briefly before coming to the United States in 1967. He obtained his Professional Engineering Licensure in 1974. He was a member of both the Philippine and American Societies of Mechanical Engineers. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer for Bechtel, General Services Administration, the Internal Revenue Service and finally, the Environmental Protection Agency. With these companies, he received multiple awards for his contributions, outstanding services and leadership. Throughout his career, he received further education and certifications at Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin - Madison and Clemson University, to name a few.
In his spare time, Tony enjoyed TV Guide Crossword puzzles, watching sports & movies, playing piano & guitar, and singing & composing music. He was very mechanically inclined and immersed himself with building projects for friends and family, including decks and playhouses. His greatest joy was spending time or traveling with his family and grandchildren. He is best remembered for his joking, laughing, singing and love for his wife, children and each of his beloved grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, November 15, at Murphy Funeral Home from 3-9pm in Falls Church, with a Memorial Funeral Service on Wednesday, November 16 at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church at 10:30 am in Falls Church.
