

Of Annandale, VA, passed away following a brief illness on September 25, 2014. He is survived by his partner of 41 years, David Wilk of Annandale; sister-in-law, Nancy Boobas of McLean, VA; niece, Johanna Boobas and partner, Kim Brownley of Mebane, NC; nephew, John Perry Boobas and fiancé, Amo Gerard; and great-nephews, Zack Boobas and Nick Boobas of Nicholson, GA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joanna P. Boobas; his father, Pericles P. Boobas; and his brother, John G. Boobas. A concert pianist who was educated at the Juilliard School, Basil appeared as solo recitalist in the United States and Europe, soloist with orchestras, duo pianist, chamber music performer, and piano competition judge. Basil maintained a private piano studio in Northern Virginia, where he provided a distinguished level of private instruction and enjoyed a reputation for bringing understanding, warmth, and enthusiasm to students and the teaching process. Over the years, his students won many local and regional competitions and music scholarships and appeared as soloists with orchestras. Of Greek descent, Basil enjoyed local Greek festivals and traditional Greek food, and he was known and loved for his sense of humor and quick wit. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 1, from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. at Murphy's Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA. Service will be at Saint Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church, 3149 Glen Carlyn Road, Falls Church, VA at 1 p.m., followed by interment at Columbia Gardens, 3411 Arlington Blvd., Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Basil's name to Animal Allies, P.O. Box 7040, Fairfax Station, VA, 22039-7040
