
Betty Jane (nee Reeves) Borecky (Betty), 98, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, where she was a resident of Falls Church, Virginia. She was born on June 8, 1928, to the late Daniel and Annie Reeves of Washington, D.C. She was one of five children (Marvin, William, Pauline, and Helen) – all of whom preceded her in death.
Betty graduated from Eastern High School, Washington, D.C., in 1946. Her career included being a secretary at the Federal Home Loan Board for two years and at C&P Telephone Company of D.C. for four years. She married the late Roy Olson in 1947, and they moved to Falls Church in 1949. While raising her four sons, she was a caregiver for many children in her neighborhood. She joined the Fairfax County School System (Police Department) and served as a crossing guard for 36 years. She retired in 1992.
Betty resided in her home in Falls Church for 76 years where she lived with her previous husband, Roy Olson, for 25 years before his death in 1972. She later married Harold Borecky in 1976, who preceded her in death in June 2026. They were married for 50 years. Betty is survived by her four sons by her previous husband – Richard Leroy Olson (Florida), Larry Arnold Olson (Virginia), James Michael Olson (Florida), and Michael Alan Olson (Virginia); her stepson, Charles Borecky (Barbara) (Connecticut); nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Betty was a member of the Graham Road Methodist Church, a Bunco group, the Woodley Garden Club, an avid bowler since 1960 and well into her 90s, and enjoyed her time at their cabin on the Shenandoah River in Maurertown, Virginia. She loved gardening, especially ornamental shrubbery and flowers around her house; cooking and baking; yard sales; and most important – her many friends she treated as family.
A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined.
