Betty was born May 24, 1940 to Hobert and Myrtle Burke of Greenup, Kentucky. Betty was the 4th oldest of 11 children.
Betty graduated from McKell High School in Greenup, Kentucky at the age of 15. She had taken a high school trip to Washington DC to see the Capitol and decided that she wanted to move to Washington DC and become an FBI agent. Her father told her she could go, but she would, first, have to go to two years of business college.
Betty attended the Interstate Business College (where she served as Miss Interstate) and received her secretarial degree by the age of 17. Just before her 18th birthday, Betty moved to Washington DC to work for the FBI, then proceeded to work for NASA, and a former IN congressman, Charles Brownson, who published the Congressional, Judicial and Federal Staff Directories.
While pursuing her dream, one day Betty and her roommates took a trip to the dime store to pick up some groceries when a handsome gentleman pulled up in a hot emerald green Chevrolet convertible with a white top. He saw a gorgeous lady and immediately decided to attempt to talk with her and, in fact, blocked her path until she agreed to go on a date with him. Well that gentleman was Jack Arnold Goldman! One date led to another and another, engagement and ultimately marriage. They spent 64 wonderful and amazing years together living in Alexandria and Springfield, VA. Betty and Jack also owned a condo in North Myrtle Beach for over 45 years which they really enjoyed spending the winters at the beach each year. Betty’s life was well lived, devoted to love, family, and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Christianne Goldman Chambers, her son, Stephen Todd Goldman (Cinde Reichard), her grandson Austen Jack Chambers, her granddaughter Jaclyn Michelle (Goldman) Hunter (Campbell Hunter) and four great grandchildren, Harper Jamie, Hadleigh, and Hannah Hunter.
She was preceded in death, by her husband, Jack Arnold Goldman. She is survived by five of her brothers, William “Bill” Burke, Robert “Bob” Burke (Angie), Richard Burke (Pam .d), Hobert “Hoby” Burke (Rita), and Michael Burke and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who was sweet to everyone and never had an unkind word. She was a little shy and quiet at times, she was a great cook (everyone loved her fried chicken and potato salad), a savvy financial investor, and she loved watching the stock market. She and Jack also enjoyed watching the Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy in her latter years every night. The love story continues in heaven. They will both be sorely missed. They were a wonderful example of love and devotion.
A graveside service for Betty will be held Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042, followed by a reception from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
