Bobby Clarence Goodman

Bob was born in Danville, VA to Emma and William Goodman on January 7, 1930. He went to High School at Hampton High School in Hampton, VA. He married Betty Ann Brewer from Olive Branch Mississippi in 1956 in Memphis Tennessee.

He worked as an Airline Pilot for Capital Airlines who merged with United Airlines for 34 Years. Bob started his career in the Douglas DC3 and ended it in Boeing 747’s, retiring in 1990. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps obtaining the rank of Lt Col. Bob enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1952 going to Basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island. He then qualified for Naval Flight Officer training and Aviation Officer Candidate School (AOCS) at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola; then flying fighters for 20 years ending his career in the F8 Corsair. He proudly wore his gold wings, awarded for aircraft carrier qualification.

Bob loved to travel and especially loved Kauai and its Hanalei Bay. He liked to play Golf, still walking 9 holes into his early 90’s and was a gym rat with a lifetime membership to LA Fitness for over 50 Years. He enjoyed being a part of the Retired United Airlines Pilot Association.

Bob is preceded in death by his son Gregory Goodman, his brother Garland Goodman and his Sister Evelyn Ragland

Bob is survived by his loving wife Betty of 69.5 years, one daughter Gayle Ells and son-in-law Peter Ells of Phoenix, AZ, his son Glenn and partner Elaine Sonner of Virginia Beach, VA.

Grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Ells, Tyler and Sarah Ells, Courtney and Zach Rapant, Cammie Goodman Callie Goodman, Carrie Goodman Cassie Goodman; Great-grandchildren, Judah Ells, Cohen Ells, Ezra Ells, Jade Ells, Owen Ells, Charlotte Rapant, and Story Rapant, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.

His life will be celebrated at Cornerstone Evangelical Church 3901 Gallows Rd, Annandale VA 22003 on Monday January 19, 2025, at 2 PM with a celebration of life immediately following at the church fellowship hall.
