McLean, Virginia-It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Brenda (fondly known as Bonnie) Poms. Bonnie was loved by everyone who knew her as a beautiful, smart, generous and straight-shooting woman with an impeccable sense of humor.
Bonnie leaves behind two brothers, Allan Poms (Lili) and her twin Bryan Poms and a sister, Joy Bojan; as well as several nieces and nephews: Mark Bojan (Janet), Scott Bojan (Leslie), Doug Poms (Mark), Eric Poms (Krista), Vicki Avissar (Jerry), Lori Williams and Dee Poms (Kat), and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Poms, her mother, Freida Poms, and brother-in-law, Louis Bojan. Bonnie loved her family dearly.
Bonnie had a zest for life and always aimed for perfection in everything she did. Very early in her career, she demonstrated a high aptitude in computer science during the emergence of technology in the l960’s. She worked for the U.S. Federal Government and developed invaluable software design skills. She joined the private sector at Computer Sciences Corporation and later became a senior analyst, gaining the respect of all who worked with her. As a part of her job, Bonnie traveled to Europe, Hawaii and other exciting locations.
Bonnie had many other talents and hobbies including interior design and always maintained a strong fashion sense. Her beautiful home reflected her design skills while her colorful wardrobe demonstrated her incomparable style as the “cool” and “hip” aunt, at times wearing go-go boots and miniskirts. She was always willing to help others in decorating, and dress, and was an expert shopper. She loved her friends and sharing good meals together; dining out was a favorite pastime. Bonnie was especially an avid cinema fan and enjoyed spending her leisure time going to movies with family and friends and discussing them afterward. She was also an adoring dog lover.
The family extends a special thanks to Felicia Manu, her devoted friend, caretaker and co-adventurer for 12 years, who has become a beloved part of the family.
Funeral services will be held at King David Memorial Gardens (part of the National Funeral Home and Memorial Park), 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church VA 22042 on Wednesday, May 17 at 1:00 pm.
Donations may be made in Brenda’s name to the American Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
