Born in Charleston, WV, Lou was the middle child of Glenn Ray Edgar and Bertha Fruth Edgar’s three daughters. She graduated from Charleston High School and attended Randolph-Macon Woman’s College (now Randolph College) in Lynchburg, VA, where she received a degree in chemistry with a minor in voice.
Both Lou and her husband, Arlin, worked at Union Carbide’s Charleston plant: Lou in the lab and Arlin as a chemical engineer. There they reconnected, having met as children when they took piano lessons from the same teacher.
Arlin and Lou married in 1950, and later welcomed daughters Louise and Mary Ann. The family moved several times, living in West Virginia and Connecticut as Arlin’s assignments changed during his 40-year career with Carbide. In Connecticut, Lou enjoyed singing in the St. John’s Lutheran Church choir in Stamford and joining the Darien Community Association, where she took and taught numerous cooking classes.
They retired to Florida, planning to trade snow and cold weather for time on the beach, boating, fishing, and travel. Lou was thrilled to find The New Club of Boca Raton, where she made many friends. She enjoyed the club’s social events, especially the bridge games, where she could combine her love for the game with her enjoyment of entertaining and cooking. She will be remembered for her love of music, her enjoyment of entertaining and gardening, and her devotion to friends and family.
She is survived by daughters Elisabeth Louise Voress and Mary Ann Voress Wild; grandchildren Matthew Claude Wild, Taylor Gray Wild, and Laura Elisabeth Wild; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in Charleston, WV, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Lou’s name be made to your favorite charity.
