

Catherine Helms was born Catherine Anne Maurer on 6/6/21 in Fort Snelling, MN. She grew up in Minnesota and Hayward Wisconsin where she met and married Sam Helms. Sam was on active duty in the Navy for 25 years moving his family throughout the United States, Europe and the South Pacific. Cathy was a committed volunteer throughout her life being involved in the Navy League, Quota International, the Gray Ladies and Welcome Wagon International. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader as well as a room mother at St. Agnes Elementary School and O’Connell High School. She worked devotedly with the blind. She was honored by the Heart Association of Northern Virginia. She was a member of MOAA Military Officers Association of America since 1983.
Cathy was fun loving and well liked by all who crossed her path. She enjoyed entertaining, dancing, playing golf and bridge. She loved traveling and was always up for a new adventure with her husband or daughters. She went hot air ballooning at 70 and played with koala bears in Australia at 80.
Catherine passed away peacefully in her sleep at the tender age of 93 after recently spending quality time with all four of her daughters and several grandchildren. She loved life, her family, and her friends.
She loved holidays, a wild adventure, visiting friends and family, flowers, memories of crazy times with her husband, a good party, the birth of her grandchildren, silly things, going to the theatre, Bing Crosby, dancing, long manicured nails, fancy dresses, elegance, gourmet food, Uncle Charlie Pugh, hats, crazy costumes, Round Lake, Blue Heaven, lobster, duck, St. Patrick’s Day, Army Navy, the Kentucky Derby, anything Irish, parades, fireworks, tall tales, magazines, twelfth night, and most of all Sam Helms …
She disliked exercise, boring people, electronic music, rudeness, hats at the table, tattoos on girls, piercings …
She is survived by her four loving daughters: Michele Helms of Santa Cruz, CA; Pat Burhans of Charles Town, WV and sons Steven Helms and Daniel Burhans along with wife Terri and daughters, Katy Jo and Alleah; Maggie Fish of Richmond, VA and sons, Randall Fish and Roman Fish along with wife Anni and children Ethan and Emma; Suzanne Williams of Santa Cruz, CA. along with husband Doug and sons Brian and Christopher. She is preceded in death by her husband Daniel (Sam) Helms and her grandchildren Debbie Burhans and Kevin Patrick Williams.
Your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will always love and cherish you. You will never be far from our hearts. Know that we treasure our memories of you and Dad. You taught us well and we hope to always make you as proud as you made us.
