Charles Edward Bernhardt

Charles E. Bernhardt “Chuck”, age 81, of Falls Church passed away on December 28, 2016. He was born in Ohio on March 20, 1935 to the late Edward and Violet Bernhardt. In December 1957, Chuck join the United States Army and proudly served his country. He later met is late wife, Mary Jo, and married on April 12, 1958. Chuck worked for the Department of Health and Human Services later retiring with over 30 years of service. He had a passion for baseball and was known to coach for the Little League in Falls Church. He is preceded in death by his sons, Greg, Richard, and Bruce, and grandson Kenneth. He is survived by his children, Susan Rankin (Ronald), John Bernhardt (Laura), James Bernhardt (Jennifer), grandchildren, Sandra, Mary Lynn, Heather, Kaitlyn, Joshua, Tyler, Dylan; great-grandchildren, Aniya, Julius, Alyssa, and Jahmiah.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 1, 2017 from 2-4pm at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St., Falls Church. Chuck will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to Capital Caring, 4715 15th St. N, Arlington, VA.
