Charles Henry “Chuck” Hackley age 85 of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday December 5th, 2023. Chuck was born on September 10th, 1938 in Amissville, Virginia on Laing Farm to Charlie Lewis Hackley and Mattie Catherine Dodson Hackley. His siblings included two dear sisters, Nora Florence Ney, of College Park, Maryland, and Betty Jane Hitt, deceased.
On April 23, 1960, Chuck married his sweetheart Barbara Ann Jacobs Hackley, whom he’d known since childhood, and their 63.5 years were filled with family, camping, travel, summer beach trips, and lots of hard work. After one year in Maryland and one year in Virginia they moved to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where Chuck served in the U.S. Army. He was discharged as a sergeant in the Rocket Division. After leaving the service, Chuck and Barb moved back to Fairfax, Virginia where they started a family. Chuck was a mechanic and entrepreneur who ran a very successful auto repair shop and later worked as a general contractor – often serving his community by completing projects in exchange for fresh cookies. He was also a dedicated member of Columbia Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he served as an usher for many years. He loved to camp, taking his grandchildren during their summer vacations, and he and Barbara were lucky to visit all 50 states, often with their camper in tow.
In retirement, Chuck spent much of his time in the place where he grew up -- on his farms in Amissville. Whether it was watching the turkeys ramble through the grass with a McDonald’s coffee in hand or tinkering on his tractor, the Indian Run Road farm was his bit of heaven on Earth.
In addition to his loving wife Barbara, Chuck leaves behind his daughters, Angela Deneen Hackley Stokes and Alicia Darlene Hackley Casella, sons-in-law Alvaro Casella and Jon Stokes, and his grandchildren Everleigh Stokes, Anthony Casella, Charles Stokes, Emily Casella, Mark Casella, and Sam Casella, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Chuck instilled a strong sense of devotion and dedication in his children and grandchildren and his steady demeanor and quick wit will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jones and nurse Lisa Rice, who cared for Chuck with grace, patience, and compassion as well as the Capital Caring Hospice providers who joined in that effort in the last days. Services will be held at Columbia Baptist Church on Saturday December 16th, 2023 at 10:00 am. The interment will be held on Monday, December 18th at 11:30am at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to the amazing team at Capital Caring, the Hospice team in Aldie, Va or the Columbia Baptist Church Building Fund.
