
COLONEL US ARMY RETIRED

Born in Akron, Ohio he grew up in Quincy, MA. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 and served in Persian Gulf and Germany. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant then attended OCS in 1951. He joined Special Forces and worked with the partisans in the Korean War. He served in the 77th, 10th, 7th, 1st and 5th Special Forces Groups and also had two tours in Vietnam. He graduated from Park College in 1967. He commanded the 7th SFG in 1976-77 then became Deputy Commander of the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center from 1977 to 1981 when he retired. After retirement he resided in McLean, VA.
He was predeceased by his first wife Katherine Snow and his brother Shepherd Norton. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dr. Virginia P. Norton, two children and their spouses Charles W. Norton III and Jessica J. Norton, Sarah N. Beaver and Walter Beaver and two grandchildren, Kalee Beaver Baker and spouse Braxton Baker, and Seth Beaver, and his sister Betsy N. Haight.
