Conway Calvin Perkins, beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away on 26 October 2023, at the age of 90. Born on 13 January 1933 in Manassas, Virginia, Conway was the youngest and last surviving of the seven children of Jesse and Flora Belle Perkins.
After graduating from Wilson Teachers College, Conway served in the US Army for a short time in Germany before returning to spend the rest of his life in Alexandria.
Conway then earned a Master’s in Education from George Washington University. Although he never married, he had many "children"; those he taught, guided and mentored throughout his long career in teaching before retiring from the DC Public School System. If not his passion, teaching certainly seemed to be his calling. Some of his closest and dearest friends called him “Teach”.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that you donate school supplies in his honor to the
W.B. Patterson Elementary, 4399 S Capitol Terrace SW Washington, DC 20032 where Conway taught for 21 years; a school of your choice; or a charity of your choice that focuses on helping those with cancer or heart disease.
There will be a short gravesite ceremony for Conway Perkins (Teach) on November 30, 2023 at 10:00am
National Memorial Park , 7482 Lee Highway , Falls Church, VA 22042.
The gravesite ceremony will be followed by a small reception for Conway’s friends and family to share some of their memories.
