I realize this memory is more than 5 years after Dave's passing, but I was clearing my emails for a migration and came upon Dave's obituary.  

I first heard of Dave as maybe the best Little League player in the Tysons-Federal Little League when I was 9 or 10 years old.  At that time Dave lived in Pimmit Hills and played for the Giants.  His hitting was legendary as he would hit bombs (dingers, HR's, etc.) in almost every game.  I played for the lowly Movers (J.E. Anderson Moving Company) and his Giants would throttle us every time we played.

Fast forward a few years to Dave and his family moving from Pimmit Hills to Falls Church.  He originally moved to Primrose Drive, which was 2 blocks from my house, before moving again to Westmoreland Street, which was only a block away.  I believe I first learned Dave had moved to Falls Church when we ran into each other at Longfellow Intermediate.

Dave and I became fast friends from the minute he moved to Falls Church, through high school, until I moved to Vienna, where we began to lose touch with one another.  I loved Dave's parents and I spent many days chatting with Ed and June (she had a twin sister, Dave's Aunt, who I met when we used to visit Dave's cousin who was severely injured in a car accident and was confined to a wheelchair.  Dave and his cousin were close and I was fortunate to be included in those visits.

Dave loved music and we used to listen to the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan on his Wollensak reel-to-reel tape recorder.  We used to listen to albums at my house and write down the lyrics to Steely Dan, Elvis Costello and other artists.  We listened and recorded a lot of music together.

Needless to say, Dave was also a party buddy and we to parties and Downtown a lot, especially the first year or two out of (McLean) high school.  

It didn't surprise me to learn Dave had become a tournament dart player.  He was a phenomenal athlete and was hyper competitive in everything he did.

I am not sure how I missed this and just now seeing Dave's passing.  I guess this is one problem with living on the other side of the country.  I have many great memories of Dave, playing football, parties, and just hanging out.  He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around.  Our starting football backfield of Dave, Steve, Avo, and Mike was a great group to be with and enjoyed how well we worked together.  I think I was the serious one (maybe it was Avo) in the group but I always enjoyed when Spire or Boswell created "lighter" times during practice.    Fish did not normally appreciate it.

Then there were the times of just hanging out after games, playing pool at my house, parties at almost anyone else's house,  the beach, one of the many senior skip days, or just having a laugh.  I have not seen Dave since high school but always considered him a good friend.  I am sad that we will not have the chance to catch up at some reunion and share old stories with good friends.  

My prayers are with his family and will always have great memories of Dave Boswell.

David  and I had Math classes with Dr.  Baxt and Senior English in the mornings with Ms. Holmstrup- we sat together, and I have some fond memories of him. I didn't realize our birthdays are two days apart and we were born in Arlington. I was stunned and saddened to hear of his departure from this World, but am comforted knowing he's in a better one right now. Dave made us laugh, and it was always in a fun, light-hearted way. We'd poke fun at our teachers, but we never disrupted class, or at least, I'm pretty sure we didn't.  I regret that I didn't get to know him better.  We'll miss him!

My deepest condolences to Teri, family and friends. Dave came to our area and was immediately welcomed into our gang of neighborhood kids. His reputation preceded his arrival as to his athletic prowess. He and I were particularly competitive along side of each other as baseball teammates for the next decade on the high school level and industrial league level. We literally played side by side in the outfield. I was a preferred batting practice pitcher to him as he enjoyed the challenge of hitting against a variety of pitches. He particularly enjoyed practicing against the curve ball. We traded outfield positions immediately in high school according to our skill set. Our friendship transcended the playing fields into our recreation time. Dave was always happy to see me. We share some stories, bonding time, and a great deal of laughter at our antics. We particularly loved shouting at our own pitchers from the outfield trying to distract them and make them laugh. There was no telling what would come out of our mouths at anytime. There are a handful of people that have impacted my life from childhood to adulthood and Dave "Boz" was certainly one of them. His friends remain my friends. His parents were great. Dave was a reflection of good parenting and friendly virtue. I will miss you my brother. I will see you in the real fields of glory some day and look forward to rekindling our competitive spirit in God's Kingdom. 

Sometimes our lives are touched in unexpected ways.  I feel so very fortunate to have been invited to so many of Dave’s extended family’s gatherings, poker parties, and dinners.  I remember fondly the times that Dave and I spent together at these events drinking Budweiser and talking outside or, more often, in Tai-Li’s garage.  We had many long heartfelt conversations when we travelled to Australia together.

Dave had a great, full loving heart.   He was kind.  And he was passionate and opinionated.  He was my friend and I will miss him greatly.

I love you, Dave.  Rest in peace.

I have not known Dave for all that many years and have not seen him since his health began to fail in earnest but the memories that rushed back upon hearing of his passing were of a strong, warm-hearted man in his prime. He certainly had his opinions, especially when it came to his favorite sports, his beloved wife, and the beautiful home and life they built together. But when I really think about it, I cannot remember him saying anything truly harsh about anyone. I imagine he voiced his innermost feelings to his wife and to his closest friends and family but not much beyond that. I remember his kind words of advice as we played a rowdy game of poker among friends and family, the obvious pride in his handiwork around their beautiful home, and when he spoke of the golf greens he tended. In retrospect, life dealt Dave some hard blows and knocked the wind out of his sails a few times, not least of which the one that took him from us. But I am quite confident that whatever his personal beliefs and hopes, wherever he may now be headed, he left a mark on this world among those of us who knew him however briefly or long. Rest in peace my friend and, until our paths cross again, thank you.

Mary and I wish those of you who mourn the loss of this fine man our deepest and sincerest condolences. We have lost two parents and two good friends in the last two years and know the feelings all too well. We wish you a steady return to peace and understanding and a new perspective on your own lives.  

Boz - Your classmates, neighbors  and friends from McLean '79 will miss you and send their condolences to your wife and family.  While we may not have seen each other in a while, each one of us has cherished memories of your friendship.    I was fortunate to have bowled with you until I left the area and moved south in 1991. You were a talented athlete but more just a kind and happy person that I am thankful was part of my life.  McLean created strong bonds that continue today, you will always be a part of us.    God Bless you my friend.

Dave always had a smile for everyone.  He was gregarious and always in good spirit.  He told stories about his family, his childhood friends, darts competition, his love for sports, and, most of all, his joyous times and activities with Teri.  It was evident that his love for Teri and his family was his utmost life priority.  Also, you could sense his closeness and loyalty for his friends.  

Dave and Teri were very hospitable and shared their warm and welcoming home with their guests.  Bob and I were fortunate to be in Dave and Teri’s extended family.

I have vivid memories of Dave and Teri’s wedding  day.  It was held in a beautiful old mansion.  They were such a loving couple.

It’s heart breaking to lose Dave so early.  We will miss him.

Dave has been a part of our crazy family for more than half my life.  We went to Australia and did a Caribbean cruise together.  I remember meeting him at Mr. Smith's...  I loved partying with him and Teri.  Good times, good times.  Have memories of a thousand family gatherings for holidays, birthdays, and just to grill.  I love his smile.  I'll remember him grinning with Teri in one hand and a beer in the other.  I love you, Dave, and I know you know it.  Until we meet again, kind spirit...
