

On Sunday, March 2, 2014, David L. Ebersole of Springfield, VA, passed away at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Cause of death was pneumonia from an acute lung infection. He was 62.
David Lee Ebersole was born at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC on April 27, 1951, to the late Clarence Henry and Leona Ruth (Pingley) Ebersole. His parents moved from DC to Northern Virginia when he was a youngster. Mr. Ebersole was a 1970 graduate of Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA. He attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, and in 1975 graduated with distinction from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA with a degree in accounting. In 1980, he married Barbara Davis Ebersole, his wife of nearly 34 years.
Mr. Ebersole worked for the City of Alexandria Finance Department for more than two decades. After retiring from the City of Alexandria, he enjoyed years of pursuing his hobbies and interests, including travel, cooking, woodworking, target shooting, and gardening. He was a history buff and collected American Civil War artifacts. At one time he volunteered at the Ft. Ward Museum and Historic Site in Alexandria, one of the best preserved forts built for the defense of Washington during the Civil War.
Mr. Ebersole was devoted to his friends and family, not only supporting them in their time of need, but also astonishing them with his elaborate pranks. He was well known for his sense of humor and love of practical jokes. He enjoyed matchmaking and took credit for at least 3 marriages of friends. Each year, Mr. Ebersole enthusiastically decorated his house for the holidays, winning several awards in the Ravensworth Farm Neighborhood Association's Holiday Lights contest, as well as awards for their "Gardens of the Season."
In addition to his wife, Mr. Ebersole is also survived by his brother Ross Ebersole; his sister-in-law Sharon E. Davis (Albert C. Eisenberg) of Arlington, VA; and two nephews: Matthew D. Eisenberg of Los Angeles, CA, and Alex D. Eisenberg of Arlington, VA.
A memorial service for Mr. Ebersole will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 11 am at Murphy's Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad St., Falls Church, VA 22046.
The family suggests that memorial donations in Mr. Ebersole's name be made to the following charities: the Civil War Trust (see link below), the American Lung Association, or the American Heart Association.
