Professor Johnson was one of my first SSP professors. I appreciated his care for the subject and his welcoming our class to his home for discussions, shared meals, and tours of his home museum. He will be missed by the Georgetown community. 

A great officer and soldier, he was my rater three different times while in the 6th BN, 14th FA, “The Warbonnets,” Pinder Barracks, Zirndorf from 1979-1984.   He was my mentor right out of OBC and kept me straight.  My 21 year career was due to him showing me, at an early stage, on how to do it right.  Rest In Peace, sir, for a little bit anyway.  Knowing you, you are getting the gates to heaven squared away.

Dave and I were Pershing Riflemen at Trinity University. He and many others went to the Army while I made a turn to the Air Force.  He, like many of our brothers, enjoyed full careers with their service and distinguished themselves in many different ways.  Dave continued after active duty to represent his service and nation by asking the hard questions and telling the stories that will help shape the future of US modern warfighting.  Rest well, Dave;  mentor, leader, innovator.  Blessings on your family in this difficult time.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dave was a vital student and critic of Army history and the Army's future.  I had the privilege of working with David on several efforts and his insights and counsel were always essential to fully developed results.   To his great credit, he never left the arena.  I cannot think of anyone whose writing was more important and timely over the last couple years with regard to keeping the Army grounded.  It seemed at times he was a lone voice urging perspective and caution as the Army reacted to every report out of Ukraine.

Dave  was a happy warrior.  He was always willing to discuss a point. If you argued with Dave, you had to have your facts straight. He knew our history.  What a tremendous person.

Dave and I were both in Pershing Rifles at Trinity University  and both served full careers in the U S. Army too. He was a well respected Officer who served this Country honorably and admirably. 

We lost a great one!

Dave and I were both in Pershing Rifles at Trinity University. He was a good man. Dave served his country with dignity and honor. I pray that God’s peace and a multitude of great memories encompass family and friends.  He will be missed. Rest In Peace, Dave.

Dave was a friend and fraternity brother at Trinity University. We shared the stresses and joys of training and learning together during the Vietnam era and then serving in the Army. Our paths diverged, but I always thought fondly of Dave and his love of his mom’s gumbo. I honor his service and send my most sincere condolences to his family. He gave us all reason to be proud of him.

My condolences to Dave’s family. Dave and I were in the same frat at Trinity and he was a year ahead of me in ROTC. He was the consummate Army officer and we stayed in touch thru our long  Army careers. After the Army, Dave continued to make significant contributions as a strategic thinker. I always admired and respected Dave. He was a good man of the highest integrity. I will really miss him.
