Denise was born with Down Syndrome. She began life with a unique set of challenges, but always overcame them. She worked independently for years, transferring on buses and navigating the metro system by herself. She loved word puzzles and pop culture. More than anything, she loved bingo, and often had extraordinary luck. Denise participated for several years in the Special Olympics, excelling in the shotput and discus competitions.
Denise was preceded in death by her father, Vincent Marcellino, and her mother Janet Jeffries Marcellino. She is survived by her brothers Vincent, Jr. and Steven, and her sisters Angela Griffin, Catherine Marcellino, and Barbara Lamke, as well as a large number of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved and adored her.
A special Celebration of Life will be held for Denise at a later date. The family asks that contributions be made in Denise's memory to the Special Olympics.
Denise exemplified the word “special” in every way. No one who met her could ever forget her, and everyone was touched and inspired by this kind and loving soul.
