

Diep was born in Long Xuyen, Vietnam on February 6, 1937. He was the eldest son of eight children. He went to school in Saigon and attended high school in Bordeaux, France. He graduated from the University of Bordeaux in 1961. Upon graduation, Diep returned to Saigon to work as a marketing manager for the Shell Company. In 1964, he was drafted to the military and attended Thu Duc Infantry School (Khóa 16). He remained in the military until 1975 rising to the rank of Captain. He married Luong Ngoc Phuong Lan on October 5, 1972 in Saigon. Their daughter, Hanh, was born in 1975. Saigon fell to the Communist regime in 1975 and Diep was imprisoned because of his longstanding South Vietnamese military service. He was released in 1978 and the family fled Saigon for the United States.
Diep has resided in Falls Church, Virginia from 1979 until his death. He worked as a houseman for Hyatt in their housekeeping department for 26 years. After his retirement in 2006, he traveled extensively with his wife to France England, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Dominican Republic, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Diep enjoyed reading, gardening and maintaining his French and Spanish fluency. He especially enjoyed spending time with extended family in Virginia and traveled frequently to New York City to visit his daughter, son-in-law and four grandchildren.
Diep is survived by his wife of 54 years, his brother, his sister, his daughter, his grandchildren (Tanner, Holden, Wyatt, Keaton), and many loving nieces and nephews.
