The world grew dimmer on February 19, 2025, with the passing of Donald Lawrence Round, a man who embodied hard work, dedication, and an unwavering love for those around him. Born on October 6, 1938, in Washington, DC, he was the beloved son of the late Edward B. Round and Olive A. Round.
Donald found joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether attending classic car shows, playing slots at the casino, or cheering on the Washington Commanders. As a talented painter, he was a proud member of Painters Local Union 890 and District 51. He spent over 60 years perfecting his craft, painting homes and buildings with skill and precision. His work was more than just a profession—it was a passion. Donald took great pride in his craft and generously shared his knowledge, mentoring many young apprentices along the way.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Delann C. Round; daughter, Donna Round Hartigan (Kenny); stepson, Nelson Sanchez; and grandchildren, Kenneth Ryan Hartigan, Conor D. Hartigan, and Logan M. Hartigan. He also leaves behind his siblings, Diane Orndorff (Ronnie) and Robert Round, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Donald’s adventurous spirit and boundless enthusiasm will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered not only for his immense talent but for the kindness, joy, and laughter he brought into the lives of those around him.
A viewing and memorial service will be held on March 15, 2025, at Murphy Funeral Home, Falls Church, Virginia. The visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by the service from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. A graveside service will follow at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, Virginia.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Edward B. Round and Olive A. Round, as well as siblings Edward B. Round Jr., Ralph L. Round, and Dorothy L. Pierson.
