Donnie Lewis Dick

Donnie L. Dick, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the community, passed away at his home in Falls Church, Virginia, on Sunday, February 25, 2024. He was 94 years old.

Donnie was born in Winchester, Virginia, on December 17, 1929. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary Ellen Dick, who passed away just two years prior.

Donnie was a graduate of Washington & Lee High School, Class of 1948, where he distinguished himself both academically and athletically. He continued his education at the University of Maryland, graduating in 1952. At Maryland, he was a proud member of the track team, where his passion for athletics shone brightly.

Following his graduation, Donnie answered the call to serve his country, becoming an officer in the 101st Airborne Division, where he served with honor between 1952 and 1956. After his military service, Donnie embarked on a successful career with the Federal government, specifically the General Accounting Office, where he served as Director of Personnel until his retirement in 1985.

Beyond his professional achievements, Donnie was a pillar of his community and a devoted family man. He was a longtime standout in his duckpin bowling league, always bringing his competitive spirit and jovial nature to the lanes. His love for track meets, the Maryland Terps, fireworks, horseshoes, VW Beetles, and above all, his family, defined his passions in life.

Donnie is survived by his daughters Dawne Singer (Andrew Nickle) and Karen Chism (Adam), and his cherished grandchildren Samuel Chism and Keightley Chism, who were a source of immense pride and joy for him.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Donnie's life will be held at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, at a later date this year.

Donnie's legacy of integrity, kindness, and dedication to his family and community will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched
