

Doris McNeil, nee Chase, died on November 13, 2011 at her daughter’s home in Annandale, Virginia. She was 78 years old and her final days were spent with her daughter and grandchildren. Doris suffered a severe stroke on October 29th after battling dementia for ten years. Her body will be cremated and no service will be held.
Doris was born March 12, 1933 in York, Pennsylvania to Carrie Ethel Chase. She excelled in sports and attended Tuskegee Institute on a scholarship, graduating in 1955 with a B.S. in Phys. Ed. She married James McNeil in 1961 and they had one child before the marriage ended. Doris taught in the York City School District for over 30 years. As the girls basketball coach at William Penn Senior High School, she led her team to the state semi-finals in 1984. After retiring, Doris loved to travel and take fishing trips.
Doris was predeceased by her brother, John Francis Chase and sister, Mary Irma Woodard. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Wright; grandchildren Bryan, Derric, and Shaina; and nephew, John F. Chase, Jr.
