

Robert James Lloyd, Jr., MD, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024 at his home in Falls Church, VA. Bob, as he was known to loved ones, was born in Washington, DC on January 6, 1943. He grew up in Providence, RI where he attended La Salle Academy and Providence College. He returned to Washington to attend medical school at Georgetown University in 1964. He completed his internship and residency in Medicine at Georgetown, as well as a fellowship in Rheumatology. He went on to serve in the Navy, where he completed a second Fellowship at the Veterans Administration and cared for patients at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. He went on to have a long and accomplished career as a Rheumatologist. He cared for thousands of patients in the D.C., Virginia, & Maryland region and received many awards, including Clinical Faculty Awards from Georgetown University. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Master of the American College of Rheumatology.
In addition to his love for medicine, Bob loved family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ellen & Robert I, and first wife, Helena Gibbons Lloyd. He is survived by four children, Robert III (Peggy), David (Christina), Jennifer (Eric) and Kevin (Alexis). In addition, Bob was married to Mildred “Midge” Lloyd and is survived by her and three step children, Delancey (Karima), Molly (Blane), and Megan (Tim). Bob is survived by twenty-one grandchildren, Jack, Grace (Ian), Peter, Ryan, Madison, Katelyn, Lindsey, Lucy, Zachary, Regan, Caroline, Ramsey (Aja), Eamon (Oliva), Case, Ryan, Alia, Nicholas, Mitchell, Anna, PJ & Maggie and two great-grandchildren, Ronan & Penelope. He loved spending time with family and could be found at soccer and basketball games, scouts, dance recitals and recording all of the family milestones over the years.
Celebrations of Bob’s life will occur on Saturday, February 10, 2024, beginning with a 9:45 am Eulogy and 10:00 am funeral at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church located at 7500 St. Philips Ct. Falls Church, VA 22042, followed by a 12:00 noon interment at Fairfax Memorial Park located at 9900 Braddock Rd. Fairfax, VA 22032 and a reception from 1:00-3:00 pm at The International Country Club located at 13200 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, Fairfax, VA 22033. Please join us for any or all of these celebrations, as you are able.
