Ed was born in Kingston, PA. After graduating from high school, he joined the US Navy during the Korean conflict, and was subsequently employed by the Navy Department in many different civilian ADP positions before retiring after 42 years of distinguished service.

He was an avid Red Sox and Packers fan, but mostly enjoyed watching and cheering for his children and grandchildren as they played on their various sports teams.

Ed was married to his wife, Martha for 66 years; both were founding and active members of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church (OLGC), in Vienna, VA. He is also survived by his sisters, Louise Zellock and Marie Zdancewicz; and his seven children, Raymond (Sandy), Marilyn Minor, Bernard (Virgie), Rebecca (Kevin) Hoisington, Donald (Heather), Kimberly (Solon) Vlasto, and Jeffrey (Shannon). Ed along with Martha have 13 grandchildren: Kevin (Cameron), Matt, Danny, Zach, Joel, Kara, Thomas, Andrew, Lydia, Alex, Will, Hannah, and Morgan plus three great-grandchildren: Nicholas, John, and Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his daughter Elaine, grandson Christopher, and son-in-law Steve Minor.

Visitation will be at Murphy Funeral Home in Falls Church, VA on April 15 from 6-8pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at OLGC on April 16 at 10am followed by burial services at Fairfax Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, you can send donations for a box of baseballs to the Vienna Little League, Babe Ruth League, or the Falls Church Post 130 American Legion team.

Kimberly, Solon and family. I am so sorry to learn of the home going of your dad. It is a blessing to me to know of your strong Christian Faith and I know this will be very comforting to you and your family as you deal with his death. Be comforted knowing that he is resting with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Blessings always, Bob

To Jeff and his entire family, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Mr. Zdancewicz was always so welcoming to us when we came home from college with Z. The memory of retrieving a couch from the Zdancewicz home when Jeff first moved to Richmond is especially fond. I was always welcomed as a member of the family and that will never be forgotten.

My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. You have lead us all through so much difficult news, and I hope you will know how much support you have as you face what we are blessed, but nonetheless heartbroken, to experience at such an "unspecified ripe old age." Warmest regards, Tish

Dear Ray,
I just received the notice of your father's passing on April 7th. My condolences to you and your family. We just celebrated the 3 rd anniversary of my own father's passing on April 12 th, so the loss of our fathers, who were both military men in the month of April, now creates another bond between us. I remember your presence at my father's wake. I have appreciated how you have been present for so many of our O'Connell alumni at the loss of their parents or spouses. I write this to you from Pennsylvania, where I read your father was born. My mother is coming to spend Holy Week with me at the motherhouse of the Medical Mission Sisters. We will be sure to keep you and your family in our prayers. May your father rest in peace. Kathy Baltazar
