Born on May 16th, 1922 in Bochum, Germany, she was the second daughter of Wilhem and Johanna Blomberg. Tragically, her father died in 1931 leaving her mother to raise their four daughters alone. Ebbe, as she was known by her family, chose her career at the tender age of fourteen, studying early childhood development specializing in infants. During World War 2, she lived in southern Germany working for several different families. When the war ended, she was hired as a governess by an American military family, she emigrated to the United States in 1950 to continue the care of their 2 year old twins. Elisabeth moved with this family throughout the United States living in Georgia, Texas, Kansas and Virginia Beach, Virginia before she can to the nation's capital. She often told the story of falling in love with DC and praying she could stay in this area.
Through mutual friends, she met Charles Arnold Boswell of Falls Church, Virginia shortly after he returned from military duty in Germany. They were married on May 25,1957 at Saint James Catholic Church. Charles served as a Fairfax County policeman from 1957 to 1977. Charles and Elisabeth, along with his parents, Earl and Nellie Boswell, established Color Wheel in McLean, Virginia.
They made Falls Church their home until 1971 when they moved to their dream home in Oakton, Virginia. Elisabeth was an exceptional homemaker and mother to her two children, Charles and Renate. She and her husband were deeply involved in the parish of Saint Mark Catholic Church in Vienna, Virginia. She attended mass daily, was a member of the Marion Society, and volunteered her time often.
She is survived by her son Charles, his wife Mary, daughter Renate, her husband Mark, and her sisters Ursula Bates of Mobile, Alabama and Adelheid Stover of Bremen, Germany. Her third sister, Hildegard Stadermann predeceased her in October 2001. Her grandchildren, Kimberleigh, Taylor, and Carson were often in her care during their early years. Their 'Omi' cared for them as only a grandmother could; unconditional love and a caring soft touch. Her fourth grandchild, Ethan, was born in 2005 and received all the hugs and kisses he could handle from Omi.
