Ellen Wilson was born in Pike Road, Alabama on December 30, 1916 to the late Eddie and Mary Ray. Ellen transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, November 25, 2011. Ellen (fondly known by family as Aunt Nunny) attended elementary school in Alabama and pursued a career as a domestic worker. She joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Montgomery Alabama at an early age. In 1943 she married Richard Wilson and he became the father to Willy James and Ethel. She moved to Falls Church, Virginia in 1963, and joined Third Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Joseph Penn. Ellen was on the usher board and was a member of the senior choir. She remained a faithful member until she could no longer attend services due to health issues.
Ellen’s home was the family hub for all family gatherings she loved to cook with her specialty being sweet potato pies. She was also a snazzy dresser (often coordinating hats, shoes, and other accessories). In later years, she still loved to go shopping and do other errands with the assistance of trusted friend (Mrs. Charlotte Hill) and family (great-niece Mary Gorham).
She was pre-deceased by her devoted husband of 56 years Richard Wilson, a son Willy James, two sisters, Ethel Lee Jones, Lu Ella Ray, and a brother Vinson Ray.
Ellen leaves a legacy of love through her daughter Ethel McDonald; great-niece, Mary Gorham; great-great nephew, Randy (Gina) Johnson; great-great niece Cynthia Johnson.
Ellen will be missed by all family and friends and will forever be remembered in our hearts.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Third Baptist Church, 917 Princess Street, Alexandria, VA 22314, from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM. Interment at National Memorial Park, Falls Church, VA. Services provided by J. K. Johnson Funeral Home, P.A.
