Enna Esperanza Rodas was born on 16 June 1943 in Mazatenango, Guatemala, born to Nicolas and Maria Rodas. She had three siblings: Anna, Guillermo (deceased), and Floridalma. Enna arrived in the United States in 1962 hoping to study English and Law. While working her way through school, she met and married Grimaldo Aybar Sr., and she had two sons, Grimaldo Jr. and Randall. She eventually earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland in early childhood education. She began her career with Montgomery County Day care association as a preschool teacher. She later started her Federal Government career at the Food and Drug Administration. She later moved to the National Institutes of Health where she retired.
While establishing a career and raising two young boys as a single mother, she found herself struggling with alcoholism. She eventually joined Alcoholics Anonymous. During her early years in AA, she recognized a large need for support for the Hispanic community in the Del Marva area. She quickly joined with other Spanish-speaking AA members to organize and found AA Spanish-speaking chapters. She was elected to leadership positions in the AA organization representing the Hispanic AA community. She was recognized by AA for her tireless volunteer work and contributions to the Hispanic AA groups.
Enna was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church since she was ten years old and has been a member of Capital Memorial Church since 1975. She served as a deaconess for many years. She was a fearless warrior for her Lord and Savior. She was never afraid to let anyone know about her walk with Christ. Her last words to friends and family were “Seek Jesus.”
Enna is survived by Grimaldo Jr, Randall, Amy and Sanaz (daughters-in-laws), Carlos, Sasha, and Rachel (grandchildren).
