Evelyn Ruth Anter Rogers, age 93, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday September 29, 2020 in Merritt Island, Florida. Evelyn was born in Port Huron, Michigan on July 24, 1927 to Lucille R. [Haddad] and Russel J. Anter, both descendants of Christian Syrian immigrants.
Evelyn received her education from Saint Stephen School in Port Huron, MI. Following graduation in 1945, her curiosity for the west coast lifestyle would lead her to move to Long Beach, California where she rented a flat on the family property of American Postwar & Contemporary artist Marvin Saltzman. Here she attended Long Beach City College studying the liberal arts, was conferred an associate degree, and met her future husband, U.S. Navy and World War II Veteran, Carl W. Rogers Sr. They married in Riverside, CA on September 7, 1962, had two sons, then migrated to the burgeoning city of Falls Church, Virginia where they welcomed their third and final child, a daughter. The Rogers family would eventually establish roots in McLean, VA.
Evelyn worked for years as an insurance agent at the Stell Insurance Agency on Elm Street in downtown McLean where she personally handled the accounts and wellbeing of everyday working-class people, politicians, and diplomats to include Zbigniew Brzezinski. Upon the passing of her husband Carl in 1987, Evelyn remained in Northern Virginia for another decade working part time as an insurance consultant and to be close to her departed spouse.
A devout Catholic and woman of faith, Evelyn belonged to numerous churches in Northern Virginia to include Saint John the Beloved Roman Catholic Church in McLean and Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Vienna. She never remarried, remaining faithful to her husband. Evelyn was a Smithsonian Associate, a lover of classical music, and appreciator of the arts. Above all, she was a confidant, advisor, sponsor, protector, and nurse to numerous grateful families and friends over the years.
In 1997, Evelyn relocated back to the place of her birth in Port Huron, MI. She spent the next two decades contentedly reconnecting with family and friends while remaining active with St. Mary Catholic Community supporting charity events, volunteering, and offering her green thumb for beautification of the church grounds. Evelyn spent her final years in sunny Melbourne, Florida to be next to her daughter and grandchildren located in nearby Merritt Island.
She is survived by her two sons, her daughter, her daughter-in-law, and five grandchildren.
Services will be held on October 17, 2020 at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, Va. where she will be laid to rest beside her husband Carl.
Donations may be made in Evelyn’s name to St. Mary Catholic Community in Port Huron, MI.

“There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,..."
