Farin Mirvahabi (Age 78)
Dr. Farin Mirvahabi, attorney, arbitrator, author, legal scholar, and beloved mother, passed away on November 23, 2022. Farin was born on August 15, 1944 in Tehran, Iran. She earned a Doctorate in Juridical Science (JSD) from New York University, a post-doctoral degree from The Hague Academy of International Law, and two masters degrees from Georgetown and George Washington University. She practiced international law at the International Court of Justice in the Hague, and after permanently moving to the United States began practicing criminal defense law at the Superior Court in Washington, D.C. She was admitted to the D.C. Bar, the Virginia Bar, and the U.S. Supreme Court Bar where she was sworn in by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
She spoke five languages and was an avid writer. In addition to many legal publications, she published short stories and poems in various literary magazines and poetry anthologies. She is also the author of the books of poetry Life is Good and A Piece of Heaven (translated from Persian), and four novels including the critically acclaimed fictionalized memoir Roxana's Revolution and the bestselling legal thriller The Judge.
Farin was noted by all who knew her for her kindness, generous pro bono legal advice and charity, and love of gift giving. She never left a note or email unanswered without an even kinder reply. She was passionate about film and watched a new movie every week ever since she was a young girl going to the cinema in Tehran.
Farin was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard Powell. She is survived by her sons Bobby and Jimmy, her brothers Reza and Hamid, and her sisters Nahid and Nadi.
A funeral service will be held this November 27, 2022, at 12PM at National Funeral Home & National Memorial Park.
