OBITUARY

Federico Alexander Leon

September 28, 1955June 20, 2020

Federico Alexander (Alex) Leon was born in Havana, Cuba on September 28, 1955. He passed away unexpectedly on June 20, 2020. Alex is predeceased by his father, Federico Julio Leon, and his older stepbrother, Federico Oscar Leon. He was the beloved husband of Gema Leon and father of Alexandra, Jennifer and David Leon.

Dr. Alex was a board-certified family physician specializing in integrative functional medicine to help restore and maintain your well-being. He ran a family medicine practice with his brother, George Leon, in Waldorf, MD, for over 25 years. In his last few years, he was part of the team at Rose Wellness in Oakton, VA. He had a passion for his profession and his patients’ care, synthesizing conventional medicine with alternative modalities such as ozone therapy, osteopathy, and others. He was practicing “alternative medicine” before it was even an alternative and lived to see many of these therapies enter into the mainstream. Dr. Alex was loved by his patients for his empathetic nature, his humor, and his ability to truly listen to their concerns. He was first and foremost a healer.

An avid student for and of life, Alex was constantly seeking knowledge in all areas of life, a follower of the mantra: “the Truth is out there.” He was a compassionate, charismatic, genuine, loving and gentle soul. He had a true vigor for life and sharing in all experiences to be had here. Travel was an important part of his life, in particular his time in Spain, where he met his dear wife and life partner Gema. He had a true love for family and could always be relied on to give of his abundant guidance, love and reassurance. Even in the most difficult of times, he was able to bring humor to every situation. Embracing his Cuban culture, he loved to dance, sing, gather with friends and eat, drink, and be merry; he loved and appreciated life, and was loved and appreciated, in return, by it. He had a genuine interest in nature and the world around him, and loved all parts of this world, but had a particular affection for the beach and the sea. He leaves behind for those who survive him a large legacy of selfless service, wonder, joy, spontaneity, curiosity and kindness.

I am so sorry to hear about Dr. Alex's passing. I was a long time patient of Dr. George in Waldorf Maryland since the early 80s. My cousin and several family members were patients of Dr. Alex. I also saw Dr. Alex on many occasions when Dr. George was out of the office. The Leon practice was the best and they were and still are some of the best Drs in this area. They have both been sorely missed. Dr. Alex was a very kind and gentle man and was very well respected. My cousin was his patient for over 30 yrs. After the Leon practice closed and Dr. Alex left the area my cousin became very ill and passed away. She had many health issues that only Dr Alex was able to keep resolved for all the years she saw him. Dr. Alex was wonderful person as well as an outstanding doctor. My heart goes out to his family and especially his brother George who is my favorite doctor and I still miss so badly. The Leon Medical Team what's the best ever. God bless you Dr. Alex you deserve your wings in heaven for all the people you've taken care of all these years. Thank you so much for your service to all of us in the Waldorf Maryland area you truly made a difference. You will be missed.

Sometimes you are lucky and life gives you someone you may remember the day you met, but when asked how long you’ve been friends you can say without hesitation: forever! I feel very fortunate and privileged to have met Alex, a man of superlatives. Caring, fun, crazy and thoughtful, any minute spent with him was a minute to treasure. The kind of person that would walk into any room and immediately be recognized by friends or for his charisma, he had passion and energy to help us all, and he was very generous sharing. I am still shocked and truly saddened for a life cut simply too short. I miss you, amigazo. Your passing lives a hole impossible to fill, but also a ton of fun and memorable moments to warm the heart. Till we meet again. Rest In Peace.

Dr. Leon was an amazing amazing physician. I have had the opportunity to work with him over the years at my pharmacy and it has been wonderful. He was a wealth of knowledge and so interesting to talk to. Dr. Alex was always looking for new areas of treatment and was an outside the box type of thinker.
His patients absolutely adored him. He will be greatly missed.
My condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.

I have been honored and blessed to have had Dr Alex Leon as an incredible part of our Rose Wellness family. He has been an amazing colleague, friend, and mentor. He was so sincere to his patients, a physician who truly cared and made a positive difference in everyone’s lives he touched.

I already miss our deep medical conversations as he was a man of infinite knowledge as well as his more light-hearted talks and jokes as he invariably saw the humor in things. Alex was so full of life always looking at new approaches and bringing new perspectives to everything he did.

He will be greatly missed but his unforgettable memories will always live on. May his soul rest in peace. Sending my deep condolences and prayers to his family.

I had the pleasure of working for Alex and George for many years. It was my favorite job. I felt like I was working with my family. Alex really loved what he did, and cared so much about his patients. He was always there for the staff for any problem that they needed help with. I am so thankful to have had the chance to have had him as a boss and a physican. He was an original. May he rest in peace.

Oh Dr. Alex...... it truly breaks my heart to hear of such a great loss. My career in healthcare began in his office. Alex George and GiGi played such a huge role in molding my career. Dr. Alex was a brilliant, caring person who thought outside the box. He was determined, stubborn, goofy and giving. So many amazing qualities he possessed that people gravitated to. So many lives he changed during his time on Earth. My deepest condolences, and prayers for peace for his family. His is already greatly missed.
