Florence Ihensekhien Okojie

Florence Ihensekhien Okojie was born November 29, 1956 in Uromi, Nigeria to Prince William and Patience Okojie. She is the oldest of their 13 children. Florence matriculated through school in Nigeria where she found her love of education, particularly math and science.

After completing her schooling in Nigeria she decided to continue her studies and move to the United States as a young woman. She moved across the world to Nashville, Tennessee and enrolled as a student at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.

She began her career as an educator, Biology professor and then an entrepreneur.

Florence was dedicated to her family and education. She put all of her siblings through college, tutored young children and cared for the elderly in her spare time. She enjoyed volunteering at local churches, reading, hiking and spending time studying the bible. Faith and family were extremely important in her life. Her son and only child, was her world, and her two grandsons whom, she affectionately named Osose and Obeji, were the light of her life.

On March 12, 2021 she was called to heaven. She was preceded in death by her lovely parents Prince William and Patience Okojie, her sister Rosa Okojie and brother Stephen Okojie.

She is survived by her Son – Blessing Aimuan, daughter in law, Malia Aimuan, grandsons, Blessing Ohunsi Aimuan II, and Cannon Cole Aimuan of Ashburn, Virginia. She is also survived by her brother, Barrister Lucas Okojie, Esq., sister-in-law, Ruth Okojie and family - Coretta Okojie, Lucas Okojie Jr., Harrison Okojie, Tura Okojie, Annette Okojie, Ephraim Okojie, Eseose Okojie, Ehi Okojie; sister, Philomina Okojie, brother-in-law Fabian Collins Onusoro; sister, Stella Okojie; brother, Edward Okojie, sister-in-law, Amaka Okojie and family - Florence Okojie, Nose´ Okojie; sister, Mildred Okojie, brother-in-law, Joshua Okolie and family - Mabel Okolie, Pamela Okolie, Sam Okolie; sister, Bella Okojie, brother-in-law Tosin Simpson and family, Tolani Simpson, Tobi Simpson, Kemi Simpson, Joshua Simpson; sister, Jennifer Okojie and family, Ruth Edgar, Ciaran O’Connor, Shane O’Connor, Oisin O’Connor; brother, Dr. Sidney Okojie, sisters, Lillian Okojie, Omonzele Okojie and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Florence was kind-hearted, generous, loving and will be deeply missed by all. The family requests that donations be sent to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on her behalf.
