On April 7, 2026, God peacefully called George Matthew Robinson Jr., better known as Sonny, home to rest at the age of 88. He passed away at his residence, surrounded by the legacy of a life well lived. Born on September 15, 1937, in Fairfax, Virginia, George was the son of Beatrice Tyree and George Matthew Robinson Sr. He was raised in Fairfax and attended Luther Jackson High School, where he began laying the foundation for a life marked by hard work, resilience, and dedication.
George’s work ethic began early—at just 16 years old, he rode his bike to his first job at a gas station. He later went on to build a lifelong career with T.J. Fannon & Sons, where he dedicated over 50 years of loyal service. Working in the fuel industry, George played an essential role in ensuring homes and businesses received the oil and fuel they needed. Through long hours and challenging weather, he remained dependable and committed, taking pride in doing his job well.
Over time, George became a trusted and familiar presence in his community. Known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and deep knowledge, he earned the respect of coworkers and customers alike. His dedication was not only to his work but to the people he served and the family he provided for. His years at T.J. Fannon & Sons reflect a life defined by perseverance, loyalty, and integrity.
George was first married in August 1957 to Marie Annette Robinson, with whom he shared five children: Marie Niles, Wendell Robinson, George Robinson III (Ocean), Ada Robinson (Young), and Gregory Robinson (Karen). Later in life, he found love again with Judy Ann Robinson, who preceded him in death. Through this union, he gained three stepchildren: Richard Stribling Jr., Twyla Stribling, and Angela Almond. Family was the center of George’s life, and he took great pride in being a provider and steady presence.
George gave his life to God and was baptized, strengthening his faith and commitment to living a life rooted in love, humility, and devotion. He was a devoted member of One God Ministry, where he found spiritual guidance, fellowship, and a strong sense of community. His church family was an important part of his life, offering support, encouragement, and shared faith throughout the years.
George will be remembered for his warm personality, sense of humor, and generous spirit. He had a gift for making people feel comfortable and welcomed, often sharing laughter and wisdom. Strong-willed yet kind-hearted, he carried himself with quiet strength. He enjoyed working on cars, watching westerns, and listening to blues music—finding joy in life’s simple moments. Above all, he cherished time with family and friends and built a life rooted in love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice Tyree and George Matthew Robinson Sr.; his daughter, Ada Young; his wife, Judy Ann Robinson; and his siblings, Bobby Robinson, Edith Snyder, and Carolyn Blackwell.
He leaves to cherish his memory his siblings: Ethel Robinson; David Robinson (Lucile Robinson); Betty Hawkins (Richard Hawkins); and Beatrice Conyer (Kenneth Conyer); his children: Marie Niles, Wendell Robinson, George Robinson III, and Gregory Robinson; his stepchildren: Richard Stribling Jr., Twyla Stribling, and Angela Almond; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
George’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the family he built, and the example he set. He will be remembered always and missed dearly.
