Gloria Dye

Gloria was a leap year baby, born on February 29, 1936, to Bernard and Lillian Eller in Washington, DC. She grew up in nearby Arlington, Virginia, where she attended Washington-Lee (now Washington-Liberty) High School, graduating in 1953. Later she earned an associate degree from George Washington University.

In the days before word processors and talk-to-text, she employed her shorthand skills for the United States Air Force. Then Gloria met a US Army soldier stationed at Fort Belvoir named Herbert Dye. They married in 1964, and she became a dedicated mother of two children. Widowed in 1996, she bounced back with everything from becoming a gym rat to joining her community’s architectural committee.

She greeted everyone warmly with a sweet smile, but she also had a twinkle in her eye and a quick wit. Her love of and knowledge about all kinds of music and her ability to sing along with pop standards, Broadway musicals, and the occasional opera was impressive. She enjoyed both watching her daughter participate in theater and attending the after-show parties, particularly for Hexagon—Washington, DC’s Only Original Political Satirical Musical Comedy Revue!

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Lillian Eller, her spouse Herbert Dye, her brother Joseph Eller, and her aunts Pauline Dorman and Marcia Dorman.

Gloria is survived by her children, Michael Dye and Susan Dye, her sister-in-law Bobbie Eller, her nephew Marc Eller (Judy Eller), and her nieces Micki Stern (Zach Stern) and Amy Beer (Mark Beer).

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Haideh Sabet, a neurologist who was tireless in her battle to help Gloria.

Gloria will be buried next to her husband, Herbert, at noon on August 25, 2026, at the National Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Falls Church, Virginia. A celebration of her life will be scheduled later in the Fall.
