Obituary of Hope Gibbs Dailey
Hope Gibbs Dailey, (93), of Arlington, VA, passed away at her home, accompanied by loved ones, just like she wanted, on February 3, 2023. Hope was born in Takoma Park, MD to Alice & Arthur Gibbs on July 7, 1929. She went to school at Takoma Park Academy in Takoma Park, MD. She married Vernon Henry Dailey on October 1, 1956. They lived in Arlington, VA and raised their three children there. Her first “real job” as she called it, was at the federal Government Printing Office, which is where she met her future husband. After marrying Vernon, she was a dedicated stay-at-home mom for many years and was famous for her M&M cookies, chocolate chip cookies, Boston Cream Pie, and Pineapple Upside-down Cake! She later became the Veterans Affairs Coordinator at Northern Virginia Community College Alexandria campus for 15 years. She loved helping “her” Veterans use their educational benefits! She volunteered for decades at the Red Cross Donor Center and Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. She also volunteered for Northern Virginia Hotline and at her children’s schools and activities. She was a Girl Scout Cookie Mom, too. She consistently attended her children’s sporting events and activities. You could always find her in the stands or audience supporting her children! Hope is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon H. Dailey and her siblings, Merion Gibbs Keller, Richard George Gibbs, and Grace May Gibbs. Hope is survived by Arthur D. Dailey and Gina P. Dailey, Elizabeth D. Rivera and Robert A. Rivera, Robert E. Dailey and Rachel A. Dailey; Sarah D. Galst and David Galst, Benjamin Dailey, Madison A. Rivera, Megan E. Rivera, Lia Galst and Lucas Galst. She is also survived by Hope’s many unofficially adopted children who she loved as her own. Donations in her memory may be given to the Wolf Trap Foundation at https://community.wolftrap.org/donation-form or the Red Cross https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation.html/ Hope’s family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Sunrise at Bluemont, and the doctors, nurses and staff at Virginia Hospital Center and Burke Health & Rehabilitation Center.
