We are grieving for our dear brother, Hugh.  I am the youngest of his sisters by 20 years -- he has always been an important part of my life.  We would talk on the phone often -- usually about food or new restaurants we had tried.  He always was concerned about how I was doing, or how my family was.  I watched him care for our mother in the nursing home -- doing things for her with tenderness and love.  He was so proud of his boys -- each of them and always told me about his grandchildren's activities.  Hugh has been my "go-to" guy whenever I needed anything.  My heart breaks that he is no longer on this earth.  But, I find comfort that he has gone to heaven and is no longer suffering.  Rest in peace our special brother -- you will always be in our hearts.

Losing my Father is one of the most difficult things I have ever experienced in my life. I stood by his side every day and watched his life slip away as his body deteriorated. I saw the love and pain in all of my brothers as we shared the responsibility of caring for him. I truly believe that GOD gave my Father this opportunity to bring all four of his sons before him during his last days. It was our time to rally around him and display our love for one another and most importantly for him. We worked with each other every day to comfort him and make his pain a little bit easier to manage. 
There was a time very late during his last night when my pain went away. There was a sense of peace and comfort that came over my entire body that made me feel like everything was going to be just fine. The feeling I had was joyful and painless. I could feel his spirit and he was telling me that our pain was over. The feeling I felt was indescribable in words. I can only tell you that it was amazing. From that point forward I knew everything was going to be OK and his pain was gone.  My two younger brothers were there with me and we shared stories of great times together.  We laughed and shared our love in front of my Father as if everything was OK. I believe it was only then that my Father was sure he had really lived and was ready to go in peace.
I believe we all felt the same spirit that night.
My Father was my best friend. We shared a lot of common interests and spent a lot of time together.  He taught me some great values in life, like how to love someone and be committed to them like he was to his Mother and as he was to my Mother for over forty seven years. He taught me the value of Family, Friendship, Truth, Honor, Commitment, how to enjoy a good laugh, how to love the simple things in life like how to eat a crab or cook a hushpuppy.  I will always be proud to be his son, friend and companion. But most of all I will always be proud that he is my Father. 
My Family has always been very important to me. I will never forget my Mother, Leola ODIE Maxine Waple or my Father and best friend Hugh Lauren Waple, Sr. 
 May you both rest in peace. Our memories will never fade or be lost. I will never forget the good times.

So very sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. He was one of the first people I met moving here almost 50 yrs ago!. He leaves a legacy in his local history. So sorry I had to miss the services; as usual work prevailed. Love to all.
