Ira is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Murphy Kaylin and their sons; Robert and James. Born in New York City, Ira grew up in Fair Lawn, NJ.
He graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (class of ’68) in Washington, DC and earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Oregon. Ira worked for the US Treasury Department and retired from the Inter-American Development Bank.
As a member of the Falls Church City Council, he contributed to the city’s budget preparations, financial strategies, and spending policies.
Ira wished that in lieu of sending flowers, take a friend to lunch.
A gathering of friends and family with a reception will be held from 4-6PM Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Murphy Funeral Home in Falls Church – 1102 West Broad Street. A memorial celebration will begin at 6:00PM
