Born in Cuba, Irma came to the United States as a first-generation refugee with her husband and two small children, carrying with her a profound courage and unwavering hope for a better future. She rebuilt her life with determination and grace, guided always by her Catholic faith.
Irma dedicated her career to serving others as a social worker in Fairfax County, a calling that reflected her compassion, empathy, and belief in the dignity of every person.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Ortiz, and her sister, Lillian Fonseca.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Minnie Vazquez, her son Peter Ortiz, and her grandchildren Brigitte, Rafi, Eva, and Isabel.
Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now reunited with those who went before her, embraced in God’s eternal peace.
