In life, you meet only a handful of people that truly leaves an undeniable mark or impression on you.  Those individuals usually have a direct or indirect hand in shaping who you are as an adult.  I can say that Uncle Jim was one of those few individuals for me. Rest in Peace Uncle Jim, thank you for all support and advice. You'll be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Marie, I  am so sorry to hear about the lost of your husband Jim.  My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family.  My God continue to watch over you and your family.

Uncle Jim or Uncle Jimmy as we called him as kids was a wonderful, kind and generous person to our family. I cherish the memories of our summer vacation spent with the Hester family in Virginia before we relocated to Texas. Uncle Jim always made us feel very special and welcome in his home. He always had good advice and a kind heart when it came to his nieces and nephews. Uncle Jimmy, we love and miss you dearly.

My sincere sympathies to the Hester Family.  Our paths crossed a number of times in our AID careers.  He was one of the good guys.

I would like to express my sincere condolences on the death of Jim Hester.  I worked with Jim many years ago in the Far East Personnel Office in Washington D.C.  I remember how proud he was when he bought his town house in Alexandria.  He introduced me to my husband, Jim Fippin.  I have many great memories of fun times over sixty years ago. Jim worked with my late mother Nani Sobha Chitrakar K.C. in the USAID office in Kathmandu, Nepal in the mid-1980s.  As a little girl on winter break, I remember Jim coming into the USAID library of which my mom was in charge.  When my mom moved our family to the U.S. in 1987, Jim was instrumental in orienting us to life in the U.S. by having us over for a cookout, taking us to the grocery store, registering my brothers and me in school, et cetera.  Clearly, I have very fond memories of Jim and I will miss him dearly.

Jim will be missed.  We shared many N.C. stories.  He was was very witty yet down to earth.  I'll also miss his baking; his banana bread was amazing.

Since Mr. James Cole Hester was one of my mentors, I am performing  pooja (worship) with Diya (oil lamp) twice a day until I can in accordance with indu/Buddhist tradition for eternal peace to departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear the pain at this critical period; peace, progress and continued to good health for remaining family members this has been and will be part of daily pray for people with space in my heart.
