

After graduation from Pittsfield HS in 1955, he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, until his honorable discharge in 1958. He was married in 1966 to the former Margot U. Ladwig, inSwitzerland, after which they made Fairfax, Virginia their home.
Jim retired from the U.S. Department of State in 2001, after 40 years of service overseas and in the US. After retirement he received a B.A. degree in history from George Mason University, worked briefly at NOVA Community College in Annandale, where he also pursued German Language studies. He was also involved in various volunteer services of the County of Fairfax, such as teaching ESL and serving as election officer.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Margot and two beloved furry companions: Seymour and Miss Kitty. Other survivors include a brother in Massachusetts, a niece with three children in California, three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in law and their children in Germany.
